Tero Isokauppila, the founder of Four Sigmatic, is on a mission to make medicinal mushrooms, some of the world’s most researched superfoods, more accessible to everyone.

Born in Finland to an agronomist father and nursing teacher mother, Tero grew up on a farm his family has owned since 1619. There, he foraged for mushrooms and other wild foods while learning about the natural food space at an early age.

Following his early education on the farm, Tero later completed a Degree in Chemistry and a Certificate in Plant-Based Nutrition from Cornell University. In 2006, he won a Finnish innovation award for discovering that the sought-after Japanese culinary matsutake mushrooms also grow in Finland. Karel Schrijver, Senior Fellow, Lockheed Martin Advanced Technology Center, California,Iris Schrijver, Professor of Pathology and Pediatrics, Stanford University School of Medicine Pathology Department

Karel Schrijver is a Senior Fellow at Lockheed Martin's Advanced Technology Center in Palo Alto, California. He was trained as a stellar astrophysicist, but soon focused on the Sun as the one star that regulates life on Earth. His professional interests range from the magnetism in the solar interior and atmosphere to interplanetary space, to the environments of planets, and to the impacts of space weather on human technology. He has authored many research publications and several pieces for the general public, but this is the first book reaching beyond his daily work. He never tires from looking at the beautiful star that we live with, observed with instruments in space that capture the Sun's atmosphere in colors that cannot reach the unaided human eye.

Iris Schrijver is a Professor of Pathology and Pediatrics at Stanford University School of Medicine. She is a physician with medical specialty training in both genetics and pathology, and she directs the Molecular Pathology laboratory at the Stanford Medical Center. This laboratory provides diagnostic testing for children and adults with inherited conditions and with cancers. Depending on the condition tested for, the testing helps to make a diagnosis, to establish the prognosis, to select the right treatment, and to monitor for recurrence of disease. Her research targets the causes of hereditary hearing loss and cystic fibrosis, and the development and application of optimal diagnostic methods. She has authored and edited original research articles, book chapters, and books. She is fascinated by all the connections between her world of DNA, Karel's universe, and the sheer multitude of links between them, so paramount to all aspects of life.

Living with the Stars tells the fascinating story of what truly makes the human body. The body that is with us all our lives is always changing. We are quite literally not who we were years, weeks, or even days ago: our cells die and are replaced by new ones at an astonishing pace. The entire body continually rebuilds itself, time and again, using the food and water that flow through us as fuel and as construction material. What persists over time is not fixed but merely a pattern in flux.

We rebuild using elements captured from our surroundings, and are thereby connected to animals and plants around us, and to the bacteria within us that help digest them, and to geological processes such as continental drift and volcanism here on Earth. We are also intimately linked to the Sun's nuclear furnace and to the solar wind, to collisions with asteroids and to the cycles of the birth of stars and their deaths in cataclysmic supernovae, and ultimately to the beginning of the universe. Our bodies are made of the burned out embers of stars that were released into the galaxy in massive explosions billions of years ago, mixed with atoms that formed only recently as ultrafast rays slammed into Earth's atmosphere. All of that is not just remote history but part of us now: our human body is inseparable from nature all around us and intertwined with the history of the universe.

Ep:75 PIERCING THE VEIL OF REALITY With Bernhard Guenther

Today we sat down with Bernhard Guenther and had a very interesting conversation. We covered a lot of ground from landing in Hollywood and interdimensional beings to discovering your shadow self and finding the Paleo short there is something for everyone in this episode.

Growing up in Munich, Germany, Bernhard moved to California in 1994 to study drums and percussion at the ‘Percussion Institute of Technology’ (PIT), Los Angeles. His exploration into rhythm and music became a journey of self-discovery and healing which lead him to bodywork and the Healing Arts.

Being very emotionally sensitive and battling depression throughout his early life, Bernhard faced his shadow and fears. His personal healing process also inspired him to explore the mysteries and hidden knowledge surrounding our planet and humanity’s origins, questioning the roots of what constitutes “reality”, and how social (and spiritual) conditioning impacts upon our collective and individual search for truth, fulfillment and happiness in all aspects of life.

His blog PIERCING THE VEIL OF REALITY is a wide-ranging collection of essays, films and interviews, ranging from spirituality, shamanism, psychology, self-work, esotericism, history, to the paranormal and hyperdimensional realities.

Cassy is the creative force behind the popular food blog, She is a Nutrition Consultant, creator of "The Fed+Fit Project: A 28-Day Food and Fitness Self Study," and voice behind the weekly Fed+Fit Podcast.

After years of fruitless dieting, Cassy found herself 24 years old, with extreme joint pain, fatigue, mental fog, and at her largest, most uncomfortable size. Loretta Graziano Breuning is founder of the Inner Mammal Institute, which helps people manage the ups and downs of their mammal brain. As professor emerita of management at California State University East Bay, and as a mom, she was not convinced by prevailing theories of human motivation. She learned that our happy brain chemicals swing up and down because they have a job to do. When you know what they do in animals, you can make peace with your inner mammal. Ep:71 Sean Croxton Redefining The One Percent

To day we talk with Sean Croxton, former host of Underground Wellness Radio, about his new pursuit in the personal development space. 

Sean Croxton just might be the world’s biggest nerd.

His idea of a darn good time is lying in bed reading (actually, probably re-reading) a book, wandering around random bookstores, or strolling around his neighborhood listening to personal development seminars while obsessing over steps on his FitBit.

He’s pretty much always been this way. There was a time when he kept everything he learned pretty much to himself.

Then is 2007 he stumbled upon this thing called YouTube where he created one of the first health-based video channels on the internet, sharing seemingly complicated masters of health in a way that everyone could understand

Soon thereafter in 2008, he launched his first podcast Underground Wellness Radio, on which he interviewed authors and experts in the alternative health space. The program ran for 7 years with over 10 million downloads and 348 episodes about all things real food and functional medicine with a sprinkle of personal development on the side.

Emily Deans, M.D., is a board certified adult psychiatrist practicing in Massachusetts.  She graduated from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in 2000 and from the Harvard Longwood Psychiatry Residency in 2004, and was a Chief Resident at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.  She is currently an Instructor in Psychiatry, Part-Time at Harvard Medical School.

The overarching theory she explores is that our bodies and brains do best in conditions for which they are evolved.  She digs up scientific information and presents it in that context. She feels that by studying evolutionary medicine, we come closer to the answers for optimal conditions for health and vitality.

The dietary basics of evolutionary medicine are simple:  don't eat very much fructose, omega-6 rich industrial vegetable oils, grains (such as wheat, rye, barley, spelt, quinoa, oats, corn, etc.), or processed "fake" food in general.  Eat as much local, farmstand, grassfed, pastured, wild-caught as you care for.  That's vegetables, meat, fish, nuts, eggs, and fruits.  

In her opinion, if you have no serious medical conditions, it's perfectly healthy to have high-fat dairy, safe starches such as white rice or potatoes, red wine, and dark chocolate in moderation.  Also, get plenty of sleep and play.
